Curio Casa

Curio Casa- A House for the Intrigued

The design explores the possibilities of extrusion and deduction combined to create a surrealistic notion of space at this store exhibiting Curio’s- artistic décor objects. Envisioned as an urban ruin, the sophisticated, refined nature of the Curios is confronted by the almost unfinished physicality of the walls. This tension between their conditions stages the other.

The materiality of the oxide flooring is generously extended across the walls, appearing as extensions of the same desolation. The three-dimensional nature of the Curio’s translated to a display that allowed them to be seen in their totality, tending to an affinity of fragmentation. The walls bear artwork as various Curio holders, articulated by sleek gold-finished rods that extend through the height of the display units, define an open circulation.

The idea of framing is emphasized in several orders- including an arch that frames the display units on either side and the compound wall that is appropriated to act as a seasonal billboard that interacts with the city, incorporating a showcase unit to intrigue the passerby.

A walkway at the edge of the site exhibiting outdoor furniture with its water pond and spurs of green is complimented by circular platforms reflecting the natural form of lilies.
